Recipe Finder Deluxe is shareware (see "Legal Mumbo Jumbo" below for more details) and as such may be freely distributed provided you distribute it without a registration password and include this Read Me file.
This document is a brief description of how to use Recipe Finder Deluxe. A context sensitive online help file with more comprehensive documentation is available to registered users.
Adding recipes - Click the add button and enter the recipe details. Once you have done so, click the Save button to add it to your recipe database or click Cancel to discard it. When entering measures a large number of standard abbreviations are automatically converted to their longer equivalents (eg if you type 2 T oil as an ingredient it will actually appear as 2 tablespoons oil in the ingredients list). A complete listing of acceptable abbreviations can be found in the online help file.
Editing recipes - To edit a recipe at any time, just alter the details and your changes will automatically be saved when you leave the recipe you have changed (click Undo to cancel editing changes to a recipe).
Searching for recipes - To search for recipes, click the Find button and complete your search specifications. Once the search is complete you can only see recipes that matched your search (the 'Found Set'). To see all recipes again, click the Show All button.
Printing a recipe - To print the recipe you are viewing, click the Print button. To preview or print all recipes or an index listing of the recipes, choose Print from the File menu. If you are using a Laser printer click the Options button in Page Setup and check you have the Larger Print Area option checked.
Deleting individual recipes - Click the Delete button while viewing a recipe to flag it for deletion. The button will change to Undelete when a recipe is flagged for deletion. In such a case clicking Undelete removes the deletion flag.
Deleting multiple recipes - Choose Multiple Delete from the Database menu to delete a number of recipes. In multiple delete, click the small rectangle to the left of the recipe name to flag it for deletion. When the rectangle is black, the recipe is flagged for deletion.
Index listing - Click the Index button to see an index listing of recipes. While in the index, typing a letter jumps to the first recipe name starting with the typed letter.
Importing Recipes - To import a recipe exported from Recipe Finder, Recipe Finder Pro, Recipe Finder Deluxe, Meal-Master, Compu-Chef, MicroCook or MasterCook choose the Import... option from the File menu and select the file. Recipe Finder Deluxe can automatically determine the recipe format and will then import the recipes into your database.
Recipe Conversion - To convert an individual recipe between metric and US/UK format just click the radio button that corresponds to the measurement format you prefer. To convert all your recipes, choose Convert Measures from the Database menu and then choose the desired format.
Preferences - This option under the Edit menu lets you set default preferences for things like screen and paper size as well as how recipes are sorted.
Merge... - This option under the Database menu allows you to add another Recipe Finder Deluxe database into the current one.
Save Found Set - This option under the File menu can only be selected when you are viewing a set of found recipes. It saves those recipes selected by the current find into a separate Recipe Master Deluxe database. If used with the Delete Found Set option, this allows you to split a database into smaller files (eg you could have one database that only contains main courses).
Delete Found Set - This option under the Database menu can only be selected when you are viewing a set of found recipes. It flags all recipes that are in the found set for deletion from the current database.
Packing the database - This option under the database menu deletes all recipes you have flagged for deletion and compresses your recipe database to the smallest possible size.
Changing databases - Only one recipe database can be open at a time. To change databases, choose Open... from the file menu and locate the database you want to use. Alternatively you can choose any one of the 7 most recently used databases by selecting its name from the list at the bottom of the File menu.
Creating a new database - To create a new (empty) database, choose New... from the File menu and give a name for the database.
Tidy Up - Choosing this option from the Recipe menu tidies up the current recipe. Choosing this option from the database menu performs different actions depending on whether you choose 'Thorough' or 'Fast' Tidy Up. If you choose Thorough, every recipe in the database will be fully tidied up. If you choose Fast, then every recipe is tidied up, except for text in the ingredients or method. Fast is up to 30 times faster than Thorough. In terms of what Tidy Up actually DOES... It ensures text in the recipe name, categories, source and nutrition fields are properly capitalised; if either course or ethnic category are unspecified it checks to see if there is a better match in the categories and updates the value accrodingly; it expands any standard measure abbreviations in the recipe ingredients or method (not done if the Fast option is chosen from the Database menu); removes any recipes flagged for deletion and compresses the recipe database to take up the minimal amount of disk space. This option also improves the accuracy of recipe conversion between US/UK and metric formats.
After a 14 day trial period you may only continue to use Recipe Finder Deluxe after payment of a shareware registration fee as described below. Since we believe in your honesty the program will still work even if you don't register it. We think that the program is well worth posting us a $10 bill and we ask that you support us in making quality software available at a low price by registering it.

Please forward your shareware registration fee to the address given at the top of this document. It is suggested that you print and complete the registration enclosed with the program or, from inside Recipe Finder Deluxe, do the following to print a registration form:
- Pull down the Apple menu and select 'About Recipe Finder Deluxe...'
- Click on the button labelled 'Print registration form...'
- Complete the details requested in the registration dialog box
- Make sure you indicate which version of the program you want
- Ensure your printer is on line and then click the 'Print...' button
Please note that we accept only Australian or US cash or cheques, sorry. The extra $10 for US cheques is because Australian banks charge that much to cash them! We have NEVER had cash go astray in the mail and recommend this as the best option for forwarding your payment.
